Teaching transfer functions without the Laplace transform

Transfer functions are convenient representations to analyse cause-and-effect relationships of linear time-invariant dynamic systems. Traditionally, transfer introduced using the Laplace transform. In this paper, we argue that transform method is not a necessary prerequisite understanding topic ‘transfer functions’. We offer an inquiry-based learning represent without formally full machinery transforms. The used in introductory engineering course on system modelling and simulation at Aalborg University, Denmark. paper also presents initial assessment students' knowledge transforms experiences gained from implementing course. Finally, conclude with discussion impact CAS tools mathematics science teaching learning.
